I’m really surprised by the aggressive prices on the newly released 10″ models of the Aspire One.
For example, the street price of the Aspire One 9″ models configured with 160 GB hard drives and6-cell batteries is $329.
The street pricing for a similarly configured 10″ model is only $349.
Of course, other than the size of the display and a slightly larger case, there is not much difference between the models.
Still, for only $20, I think most people will go for the bigger display.
With price points only $20 apart, I would expect the 9″ models to disappear soon from Acer’s product line.
In 2007 and early 2008, the “standard” display size was 7 inch. With the release of the second generation netbooks last summer, the “standard” grew to 9 inches (with a few 10 inch models on the top of the price range).
In 2009, the new “standard” is 10 inch. Acer is simply conforming to this new reality.
Expect that Acer will soon introduce another new 10-inch model soon. This new model will be more fully featured and will compete at a higher price point.
