I described in an earlier post how I dropped my netbook, leading to its demise. The good thing is: Now I get to buy a new netbook!
In Part 1of this series, I reviewed out the features that are important to me. Then I scanned the currently available netbooks and selected five that met my requirements.
The first on the list (in alphabetical order) is the Linux version of the Dell Inspiron Mini 9. I reviewed that netbook in depth in Part 2.
The next netbook on my list of potentials is the Dell Inspiron Mini 12.

The pink version of the popular Samsung NC10 has, for some time, been more expensive than the other colors. But with an Amazon Merchant cutting its price to $413.00, the gap is smaller. (The lowest price for all of the other colors is $409.00.)

When we started tracking prices for netbooks and capturing whenever a new low price point was established, I thought we would be lucky to report one or two per day.

The Seashell White model of the Acer Aspire One 9″ 8G 3-Cell Linux started the day with the lowest price at $273.28. First one of the Amazon.com merchants cut their price to $261.83. Then, another of the Amazon.com merchants cut the price even lower to $244.89.

Back around the middle of this past year, the netbook marketplace really began to buzz as the launch dates of the second-generation netbooks were nearing. MSI was garnering a major chunk of the mind share, with the Wind Netbook receiving rave reviews. Meanwhile, Asus was busy announcing new Eee PC models at a dizzying pace. Acer was preparing to introduce the Aspire One; however, while the reviews were favorable, it was getting a lot less buzz.

Over the past month or so, we have shifted gears from primarily providing netbook news and information to searching and reporting on the best deals on netbooks. At times we became almost obsessive in keeping our price comparison charts current and relaying the best deals to you.
We had a lot of fun in doing this. Sometimes it is hard to tell whether our work is beneficial, but the big jump in page views tells us that you appreciated our work.
Acer Aspire One Netbooks
Based on page views at our site, here are the top five netbooks:

- Asus Eee PC 1000HA 160G XP
- Acer Aspire One 120G 3 Cell XP
- Aspire One 16G 3 Cell Linux
- Asus Eee PC 1000H 160G XP
While I’m not pretending that this is representative of the entire marketplace, it does reinforce recent reports that Acer has transplanted Asus as the top manufacturer of netbooks. Based on our activity, Acer and Asus dominate mindshare. We have to go down our rankings a good bit before we get to rhe HP Mini-Note, then MSI Wind and later Dell.
Now that it is Christmas Eve, we are shutting things down for a few days. But before we do, we want to wish a Blessed and Merry Christmas to all of you.
