What’s Special

Designed by Japanese artist Naoto Fukasawa (to mimic the roundness of a pebble), the Samsung N310 is strikingly different and strangely compelling. A definite attention-getter.
Exterior has a slightly grainy rubberized feel
The keyboard is coated with a nano-sized silver ion powder that Samsung claims kills 99% of the bacteria that come in contact
Six-cell, 8850 mAh battery provides 10+ hours of real-world life

What’s Not So Special

The value – you definitely pay a premium for the artistic design and specially treated keyboard.
Inside, the N310 offers standard netbook components. From a performance standpoint, there is nothing special at all.

Recommendation

If you are attracted to the striking appearance of the Samsung N310 and you are willing to pay an extra $50 for the good looks, then this is your netbook. The N310 offers great quality, a comfortable keyboard and long battery life.

If you are more value concious, then you will probably be happier with the Toshiba mini NB205 (longer battery life) or the Asus Eee PC 1008HA (sleek and attractive). Each of these offers some differentiating features at price points about $50 less than the N310.

Outside

Appearance and Build Quality

The rounded corners of the Samsung N310 deceive the eye into believing that the N310 is thicker than it really is. At 1.1 inches thick, it is only 0.1 inch thicker than the super-sleek Asus Eee PC 1008HA.

Weighing in at 2.7 pounds, the N310 is slightly lighter than other netbooks configured with six-cell batteries.

The N310 is available in fout colors: Black, Navy Blue, Mint Blue and Sunset Orange.

Display and Keyboard

The N310 features a 10.1-inch glossy screen that is mounted flush to the edges of the case. The native resolution is 1024 x 600 pixels. However, Samsung provides a software feature that effectively increases the resolution to 1024 x 768. While legible in this mode, everything looks oddly compressed.

The keyboard has an “island” style, where each key sits raised a good bit above the case. Unlike the chicket-style keyboards recently introduced Asus and others, the island-style offers considerable space between each key. I strongly prefer the island-style, where I can easily feel where one key ends and another starts.

The touchpad is adequately-sized with mouse buttons on a rocker bar below.

Webcam, Audio and External Ports

The 1.3 megapixel web camera is significantly better than the 0.3 megapixel camera configured in some netbooks.

The N310’s speakers are located above the keyboard. Sound quality is very good with the ability to generate more volume than the average netbook .

The Samsung N310 is configurerd with a typical array of external ports:

3-in-1 card reader
VGA-out
Audio in/out
Ethernet

Inside

Processor, Graphics and Storage

The Samsung N310 is powered by a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 processor which is standard for most of today’s netbooks.

It is configured with 1GB of RAM. The graphics accelerator is an Intel GMA 950. The hard drive is a 160 GB model spinning at 5400 RPM. These features are typical for a netbook.

Communications

The 802.11b/g/n wireless adapter provides faster speeds, a wider range and is more reliable connections than the 802.11b/g support provided by most other netbooks.

The N310 also offers an internal Bluetooth adapter.

Battery

The six-cell, 8850 mAh battery provides over 10 hours of real-world use.

Operating System

The Samsung N105 is configured with Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition.

After a brief interlude while I focused on redesigning our website, I am back to writing articles. One of my favorites is our Falling Prices articles.

As you know, we track prices on a daily basis at over 40 different merchants. We constantly track the lowest price for each product. Whenever the lowest price drops by $5.00 or more, we tell you about it.

Let’s start with a significant drop in a top-of-the-line netbook, the Samsung NC20. This is the one with the big 12″ display and the VIA Nano processor. BuyDig.com has priced the NC20 down to $459.00. That is more than $20.00 below any one else’s price.

If you are looking for something a little smaller, lighter and much thinner, then here is a deal for you. mWave has cut their price for the Black model of the Asus Eee PC 1008HA to below $400.00. This is a great price on a hot new netbook.

Maybe you would prefer something in between? Then, for you we have the Acer Aspire One 751h, which features an 11.6″ screen with 1366×768 resolution. It’s smaller, thinner and lighter than the NC20, but bigger than the 1008HA. Buy.com has slashed their price for the Sapphire Blue model to $325.99.

Samsung N310 Finally here!

It’s coming!!!!! The Samsung N310 or as some say the Samsung GO is available for pre-order today from some of the following vendors listed below. This is sure to be a hot product this week. The Samsung N310 comes with all sorts of goodies and a fresh new look that people have been waiting for.

Samsung N310 coming next week

Newegg has released an unboxing video of the new Samsung N310 netbook.

Newegg is claiming to have the Samsung N310 in stock by end of next week. That would put it on shelves by the 19th of July.

The Samsung N310 is available for pre-order via J&R Electornics. They are still advertising the netbook as the N310.

There has been talk that Samsung is going to be rebranding the N310 to the Samsung Go.

Here is the video unboxing video of the Samsung N310. I know it’s not the best video. Maybe we should do one for the viewers!

Samsung N510 coming with some goodies

Samsung is preparing to launch the new N510 series netbook. Listed below is the set of features that the N510 will have. You will see that Samsung will be using the Intel N280 processor that runs at 1.66GHz.

Here is what we know so far:

One of the big new features that the Samsung N510 will offer is the capability of playing high-definition video. The NVIDIA Ion Graphics chipset teamed up with the Intel Atom N280 processor makes this possible.

The display will have a 1,366 X 768 resolution which will make viewing high-definition video very nice.

One machine that would possibly rival the Samsung N510 is the Acer Aspire One 751. The Aspire One 751 will fall short when comparing it to the Samsung N510.

One of the issues the Aspire One 751 has is the lack of a powerful processor. It comes with the Intel Atom Z5XX series processor which is significantly slower than the Intel Atom N280.

This in return will not give the Aspire One 751 the capability to play high-definition video.

As we get close to a launch date for the Samsung N510 we will keep you posted. This is one of the netbooks that I personally am looking forward to getting my hands on!

Samsung calling the N310 the Samsung Go

Due sometime out mid July, Samsung is going to release the N310 netbook. It has been rumored that Samsung is going to be calling the netbook the Samsung Go.

The Samsung Go is going to be priced around $479.00 and brings a new look and feel compared to other Samsung netbooks.

The colorful new netbook will have a rugged lid, and be available in many colors. Samsung is also going to be releasing a 11.6 inch netbook called the N510.

There has been pictures of the N510 with an HDMI port on it. This will be Samsungs first 11.6 inch display with the NVIDIA ION Chipset.

We will keep you posted as the N510 nears a launch date.

Over 1 million Samsung NC10’s sold

Samsung released the NC10 back in October of 2008. The company has announced that it has officially sold over a million NC10’s.

This is a big step for Samsung since the NC10 was their first entry into the netbook market.

One of the features that set the NC10 apart from the other netbooks was it’s keyboard. The Samsung NC10 has one of the best keyboards on a netbook still to date.

Samsung has also announced a new version of the NC10 that will have the option of WiMAX. This NC10 will be a bit more pricy, which will probably turn some people away.
