My experience with the HP Mini has been, umm shall I say disappointing!! I have had to send it in 2 times since Father's day and one of those times they shipped me a new netbook. Calling overseas is also a horrible experience. There is a script that must be followed at all cost and it is out of the question to ask for a Supervisor, they are always surprisingly unavailable.

Yes they do. I tested YouTube and it ran fine on Moblin. I will be posting a video later this week that will show off some of the functionality. I will make sure to sample a YouTube video in the video.

Richard,

Thanks for the compliments.

You have a lot of good questions. Let me tackle them one at a time.

Samsung N510 availability? The rumor mill says some time in September. There has been nothing official from Samsung yet. Stay tuned. We will keep you posted.

Will it be available with Windows 7 ? Not initially, since we expect the N510 to ship before Windows 7 is released. But we expect Samsung to release a Windows 7 version at some point. It is possible that we may start to see netbooks packaged with XP and a free or low-cost upgrade to Windows 7. But I would not hold my breath on that.

When will Microsoft allow Windows 7 to be sold on a netbook with a 250 GB drive? They will allow it right away, just not the low-cost starter edition. Of course, the higher-priced versions of Windows 7 will be too steep to be comptetitive on a netbook. So, I expect a standoff between Microsoft and the netbook makers. It is a question of who blinks first.

Of course, if Android, Chrome OS or Moblin get any traction, Microsoft may make concessions sooner.

Love your website, articles, and especially the reviews.

This works perfectly on my new Verizon setup also. The only suggestion I'll add is to set "stupid mode" in the gnome-ppp options. Doing this (in my environment at least; Acer Aspire One D250 running Ubuntu Jaunty) prevents a longish delay with gnome-ppp sitting on "waiting for prompt."
