The hard drive in the Mini 12 has a PATA interface. Most other netbooks have a hard drive with a SATA interface. SATA is faster.

The processor in the Mini 12 is an Intel Atom Z520 (1.33GHz) or Z530 (1.6GHz) compared to the normal Intel Atom N270 (1.6GHz). The Z series processors were designed for smaller devices and they draw less power.

The performance difference between the Z530 and the N270 is not perceivable to me.

Now, the Mini 10 can be configured with any of the above processors. The original Mini 10s have Z-series processors. The new Mini 10v has an N270 processor.

If you are trying to choose, the big difference is the 12" display vs. the 10" display. The Mini 12 is actually thinner than the Mini 10 - and even though it has a bigger display and chassis, the Mini 12 only weighs 0.1 lbs more.

If you need a large hard drive, the maximum on the Mini 12 is 80 GB while the Mini 10 can be ordered with up to 250 GB.

My point is that the difference is primarily in the features. The performance difference is not big enough to matter.

I hope this helps...

Is there a difference between the hard drive and processor in the mini 12 and other netbooks

As far as I can see the mini 12 only has a 40GB hard drive and a 1.33 ghz processor

why would you pay extra money for less. Is the intel Z processor faster than the atom one and is the hard drive different so it holds more?

If not what is the performance difference between the mini 12 and the mini 10
