HP Cuts Mini-Note Prices

Acer announced price cuts on its Aspire One netbooks on August 22.  Now HP has responded with price cuts on its 2133 Mini-Note netbooks.

The HP Mini-Notes are widely recognized as being the among the highest-quality and most attractive netbooks.  Additionally, most reviewers rave over the size and usability of the keyboards.

The Mini-Notes have several other features that are unique among the current batch of netbooks.  While the displays are only 8.9″, the resolution on some Mini-Notes is 1280×768 (others are 1024×600) and the version of Windows is Vista Home Basic or Vista Business (not XP Home Editiion like everyone else).  Of course, if you fork over the big bucks for one of the Vista Business models, you have the option of downgrading to XP Professional.

The big knock on the Mini-Note is the older, slower Via C7-M processor.

The Mini-Notes prices have been cut by as much as $235.  The lowest-price model (KR922UT), which is packaged with SuSE Linux and a 4 GB solid-state drive, has been reduced from $681 to $499. Our Compare Prices page shows the best price today is from BuyDig.com at $469.  Interestingly, this model has the 1280×768 resolution display.

However, a better value is probably model KX869AT, which is similar but comes with a 120 GB hard drive (in place of the 4 GB SSD) and 1 GB of RAM (up from 512 MB).  This is listed at $549 on HP’s website (down from $761).  However, our Compare Prices page shows that BuyDig.com has it in stock for $525.

If you must have a Microsoft operating system, your best value is either model  KX868AT or KS103UT.  Both come with Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic and a 120 GB hard drive.  The KX868AT has 1280×768 resolution screen and 1 GB RAM.  The KS103UT comes with a 1024×600 resolution display but 2GB of RAM.  Once again, our Compare Prices pages show who has the best deal.  The KX868AT is available from Amazon.com for $577.99 with Free Shipping.  The KS103UT is available directly from HP for $599.

If you have been waiting to get an HP 2133 Mini-Note, but the price was too high, then your wait is over.
