New Product Search Feature

Posted by Tom Greer on February 1, 2009 in Site-related

When we upgraded our site a few night back, not only did we make the user interface more elegant, but we also incorporated a number of  new features.

The biggest improvement is the product search feature.

Our new search box is located  in the upper right corner of the page.

Our old search features retrieved articles only.  However, our new site allows you to search our product database as well.

Ti search the product database,  be sure that the radio button labeled “Products” is selected.

The will return a list of matching products.  Here is a screenprint of the results from a  search for “Red”:

The search process seeks matches against the product name, description, color, model and part number.

From the results, clicking on the Go! button will take you to the Price Comparison  page to the chosen netbook.

Guidelines for using this feature:

  • Search words must be at least 3 characters.
  • Words prefixed with a plus sign (e.g. +linux) are included in results.
  • Words prefixed with a plus sign (e.g. -vista) are excluded from results.
  • Words without prefixes are scored higher in results.
  • Use parentheses () to group words into expressions.
  • Expressions enclosed in double quotes (e.g. “vista business”) will be matched explicitly.

We’ve got bigger plans for our product search feature.  We’ll be adding more functionality  down the road.

If you’ve got ideas on how we can make this  better for you, then use the comments below to tell us.
