This morning, we have several netbooks where the lowest price has dropped by $5.00 or more.
The first one on our list is a great bargain. One of the Amazon.com merchants have cut their price on the Pearl White model of the Asus Eee PC 900 16G XP to $249.99.

If you would prefer a 10″ netbook, instead of the 9″ model above, then take a look at the Acer Aspire One D150 10″ 160GB 3-Cell XP. Mwave has just cut their price on the Ruby Red model to $279.99 with FREE shipping.

The final entry in today’s falling prices list is the MSI Wind U100 160G 3-Cell XP. Since MSI introduced the new U123, the prices on the older U100 models have been dropping.
A couple of the Amazon merchants are having a price war on the Black model. Yesterday, one of them cut their price to $299.99. Just before midnight, a different Amazon.com merchant responded by slashing their price to $295.99.

Acer to Release Android-Based Aspire One Next Quarter

Acer's Android-Based Netbook
Acer has announced at Computex 2009 that they will release a version of the popular Aspire One netbook configured with Google’s Android operating system.
Android is Google’s Linux-based operating system that was originally developed for smartphones.
What is interesting about this is that the first netbooks only ran on Linux. Then Microsoft woke up and virtually wiped out Linux-based netbooks by cutting the cost for XP licenses to near zero.
In recent weeks, there has been a lot of press around two new Linux-based operating systems. Google’s Andoid and Intel’s Moblin.
Although Acer’s first Andoid-based netbook will have an Intel Atom N270 CPU, the reason for a lot of the excitement surrounds netbooks in the wings that are not based on Intel chips.
There are a number of different netbooks in development that have CPUs based on ARM designs, like Nvidia’s Tegra that we highlighted a few days ago. ARM processors are currently used on many smartphones. These CPUs are attractive based on their low power consumption which provides long battery life.
Microsoft’s Windows operating systems will not run on ARM processors.
All this creates a real problem for Microsoft. The game plan for Microsoft is to migrate netbooks to the new Windows 7 operating system and to begin making money. Speculation is that their target is a $30 per netboook increase. That represents about a 10% price increase in the average netbook.
Microsoft will undoubtably respond in an effort to kill off this new competitive threat. Call me cynical, but they have not failed in the past, and there is no sign that this will play out any differently.
But, being a Linux fan, I’ll be cheering on the sideline for the underdogs.

Now that Samsung has introduced newer models, we have seen some recent pricing action on the NC10. This an excellent netbook, and now it represents an even better value.

Acer Aspire One D250 unboxed

The new Acer Aspire One D250 has popped up on the UK and German sites. This will also be a 10″ model of the Aspire One Series of Netbooks. Some of the key features include.
- 10.1″ display at 1024 x 600
- Intel Atom processor N270/N280
- 160GB Hard Drive
- 802.11b/g Wi-Fi
- Bluetooth
- Up to 2GB RAM
- 3G wireless support
The Aspire One D250 will come with Windows XP Home when it officially launches. You will have an option of a 3-cell or 6-cell version with the 6-cell lasting for up to 7.5 hours of battery life. Your color choices will be Sapphire Blue, Seashell White, Diamond Black, and Ruby Red.

Acer Aspire One 531 coming soon?

The Acer Aspire One 531 has shown up on the Acer German site.
Acer will also be carrying a professional version of the 531 aimed for business users. The Aspire One 531 Pro will offer Vista Business, Windows XP Pro, and Windows XP Home while the Aspire One 531 will just offer Windows XP Home.
The 531 will be using the new Intel Atom N280 processor and sport a 1024 x 600 10.1 inch display.
No US release date has been set yet, but I found a nice unboxing video which I’ve posted below.
