Falling Netbook Prices – 6/15/09

Posted by Tom Greer on June 15, 2009 in Falling Prices

Today we have couple of netbooks/nettops where the price has dropped by $5.00 or more.

First up is the Dell Inspiron Mini 12 80GB 6-Cell XP where Amazon.com has slashed their price to $442.72. This is a 12″ netbook with a screen resolution of 1280×800. That’s big enough to display two web pages side-by-side. This is the model that I use as my personal netbook. This is an excellent deal.

Dell Inspiron Mini 12 Review

Posted by Tom Greer on May 11, 2009 in Dell Netbooks, Reviews

Dell’s Inspiron Mini 12 breaks new ground in the netbook marketplace.  With atypical netbook features like a 12.1-inch display with 1280 x 800 resolution, an Intel Atom Z-series processor, a larger keyboard and the speaker mounted face-up on top of the keyboard, the Dell Inspiron Mini 12 stands out.

Unboxing My Dell Inspiron Mini 12 Netbook

Posted by Tom Greer on May 4, 2009 in Dell Netbooks

After dropping my Aspire One, I needed a new netbook.  I wrote a series of articles detailing my requirements and exploring various netbooks, before selecting the Dell Mini Inspiron 12.

It arrived yesterday.  Our unboxing ceremony is documented below.

This our first foray into video. If you have any comments, recommendations - or if you just want to make fun of us, please take time to comment below.

We had a blast doing this.  We will be doing a lot more in the future.  Stay tuned.

Netbooks Get Bigger, More Powerful

Posted by Tom Greer on May 3, 2009 in Asus Netbooks, Dell Netbooks, HP Netbooks, MSI Netbooks, Netbook Market, Ultraportables

For a long time, it seemed every new netbook looked the same as the last: 1.6 GHz Atom N270 processor, 10-inch screen, 160 GB hard drive, etc.  But recently, there have been a whole wave of netbooks featuring bigger screens, faster processors and other features unique to netbooks.

Here are the ones that we like best:

  • HP Pavilion dv2
  • Asus N10J
  • Dell Inspiron Mini 12
  • MSI Meron VR220

Read more about each in the tabs below.

Selecting My New Netbook, The End

Posted by Tom Greer on April 19, 2009 in Dell Netbooks, HP Netbooks, Netbooks, Site-related

I’ve made the process of selecting my new netbooks a long, drawn out process so that I could share what I learned.

Here is what I posted earlier:

I dropped my briefcase containing my notebook and netbook while traveling. Shortly thereafter, my netbook became dysfunctional. So I need a new netbook.

In Part 1, I  defined my needs and wants. Then I decided which netbooks were possibilities.

In Part 2, I investigated the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 and decided that was out.

In Part 3, I looked at the Dell Inspiron Mini 12 and decided it was definitely in.

In Part 4, I inspected the 10″ version of the HP Mini 1000 and I liked that, too.

So now it is time to make a final selection.

Selecting My New Netbook, Part 3

Posted by Tom Greer on April 16, 2009 in Dell Netbooks, Fujitsu Netbooks

I described in an earlier post how I dropped my netbook, leading to its demise.  The good thing is: Now I get to buy a new netbook!

In Part 1of this series, I reviewed out the features that are important to me. Then I scanned the currently available netbooks and selected five that met my requirements.

The first on the list (in alphabetical order) is the Linux version of the Dell Inspiron Mini 9. I reviewed that netbook in depth in Part 2.

The next netbook on my list of potentials is the Dell Inspiron Mini 12.
