Why Do I Carry a Notebook and a Netbook?

Posted by Tom Greer on April 13, 2009 in Netbook Market

In my last post, I mentioned that I carry both a notebook and a netbook when I travel.

In the past, I’ve had many people inquire why.  People look at me funny when I pull out two laptops when I go through airport security.  A number of my friends shake their heads and express concern about my mental health.  But there is a method to my madness.

Here is why I carry both:

I work for a large corporation that has very strict rules about using the company equipment and/or the corporate network for activities that are not business related.

I am an ethical person and I believe that I should honor their policy.

I don’t think that I am alone here.  I believe that there are others who do the same.

So, I carry a netbook for personal use.  It goes everywhere I do.  I use a 3G AirCard to gain access the the Internet from just about anywhere.

This allows me to maintain this site and process email whenever and from wherever I wish – without using any of my employer’s resources.
